As Marquette Bank celebrates its 80th anniversary, Nick Kumke sees it as proof of something rare in today’s world: stability and trust. “So many community banks have been bought out or closed over the years. But Marquette Bank is still here. My parents banked with them, I bank with them, and now my kids have accounts with them. That kind of legacy doesn’t happen by accident.”

Lifelong Connections

For Police Officer Nick Kumke, Marquette Bank has always been more than just a place to deposit checks or take out a loan, it’s been a part of his personal and professional journey for over two decades.

Nick first joined Marquette Bank in 1999, just after graduating high school. “I started as summer help while I was in college,” he recalls. “I worked on and off during school breaks, then stayed on full-time for a couple of years before starting my career in law enforcement.”

Even after becoming a police officer, Marquette Bank remained a constant in Nick’s life. “I never really left,” he says. “My family and I still bank here. We've had mortgages, loans, and accounts with Marquette Bank.”

A Bank Rooted in the Community

What has kept Nick loyal to Marquette Bank all these years? For him, it comes down to something simple: community. “They’re local. With branches right where we live, it’s easy. You’re not dealing with a massive national bank. They know who you are, they treat you like family, and they take care of you.”

Nick also points to Marquette Bank’s commitment to its employees. “A lot of the people I worked with 20 years ago are still there. That says a lot. The culture is easygoing, supportive, and family-oriented. They treat employees well, and that shows in how long people stay.”

Giving Back Where It Matters Most

In his role with the local police department, Nick also runs a nonprofit organization that supports community initiatives. Time and again, Marquette Bank has stepped up to help. “They’ve always been over generous,” he says. “Anytime we host a fundraiser, like our annual golf outing, Marquette Bank is there. They don’t just sponsor events; they send people out to help, to check in guests, to run things. They’re always asking, ‘What can we do?’ That community spirit is real.”

Beyond his own experiences, Nick notes Marquette Bank’s broader charitable impact in supporting programs like the Bread Truck to feed local families, sponsoring senior outings, and backing countless neighborhood events.

The Meaning of 80 Years

Looking to the future, Nick is confident Marquette Bank will continue to thrive. “They’ve kept up with the times like online banking, security, adapting to a digital world but they haven’t lost that personal touch. They’re doing everything right. Don’t change what’s not broken.”

For Nick, one thing is clear: “I’m a lifelong customer.”
